Et in terra pax - Peace in a World in Conflict

The DeKalb Choral Guild will

offer reflections on conflict,

Deep-rooted, age-old conflict, war, and peace.

Avondale Estates First Baptist Church, all seats $5,intolerance, fear, pessimism, and hatred threaten our increasingly fragile world and make victims of the innocent.  In the midst of

suffering we can become cynical.  Art and music can express our grief and elevate and illuminate paths to understanding when politics and words alone fail.  Works include  Kurt Bestor’s “Prayer of the Children,” and a

setting of text by Mother Teresa of Calcutta: Rene Clausen’s “Prayer”. The Avondale Children's Choir will join us on the

program. And we will highlight our recent signing of the Charter For Compassion.  The program concludes with

John Rutter’s exuberant setting of the liturgical Gloria, which transcends ages and religions with its angelic proclamation of peace on earth.

Dialogues: Life and Death

This multi-media presentation featuring choral works along with spoken word and visual arts will explore and express dialogues on the themes of life and death – not so much as antithesis, but rather intimately related experiences. The program includes selections from William Schuman's Carols of Death, Eleanor Daley's "In Remembrance", and Norman Dello Joio's "A Jubilant Song." Various community organizations that offer support to the grieving and the dying will be special guests.
